Anonymous Visitor Statistics with WP Statistics
I use the WordPress plugin “WP Statistics” by VeronaLabs on this website. I use the plugin to obtain anonymous statistical information about how my website is used. This allows me to understand, for example, which content is frequently viewed and which browsers and device types are used to access my website. This information helps me improve my website technically and editorially.
WP Statistics is configured with privacy-friendly settings. In particular, the following anonymous or aggregated information may be collected:
- pages visited,
- time of access,
- referring website or referrer,
- browser type and version,
- operating system and device type,
- general geographical information, such as country or region, where available.
A visitor’s full IP address is not stored in the statistics database. The IP address is shortened before storage and protected through a hashing process. To count unique visitors, the plugin uses a random value that changes daily. This prevents a visitor identifier from being used across multiple days.
WP Statistics does not use cookies, local browser storage, or comparable persistent identifiers. Visitors are not tracked across different websites or devices.
The data generated by WP Statistics is stored locally in the WordPress database on my web server, which is located within the European Union. Visitor data is not transmitted to VeronaLabs or any other external analytics provider. The statistics data is not transferred to a country outside the European Union or the European Economic Area.
The statistics are used exclusively for anonymous audience measurement and for improving the technical performance and content of my website. To the extent that personal data is processed briefly before anonymisation, the processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is the privacy-friendly analysis and optimisation of my website. The early anonymisation, local storage, and absence of cookies or persistent visitor identifiers minimise the impact on visitors’ privacy.
Detailed statistics are automatically aggregated after 180 days. After aggregation, only anonymous totals for visitors and page views are retained. Information such as referrers, locations, devices, operating systems, browsers and other detailed records is deleted.
